The year posters overtook canvas

For years, if an American wanted art for the wall, they searched for canvas. The canvas print was the default, and the numbers backed it up. In the middle of 2024, canvas prints were pulling close to four hundred thousand searches a month, comfortably ahead of posters.

Then it flipped. From the middle of 2025, posters moved ahead and stayed ahead. Canvas has fallen from that peak to around one hundred and forty-five thousand searches a month, a drop of roughly sixty percent, while posters have held steady and now sit well in front. The most recent month puts posters at two hundred and thirty-four thousand against canvas at one hundred and forty-five thousand. Why the turn? Canvas had its moment as the safe, grown-up upgrade. But it is heavy, expensive and permanent, and it does not suit the way people actually live with their walls now. A poster is inexpensive, easy to frame and easy to change. You can refresh a room for the price of a takeaway, swap the art with the season, and take it with you when you move.

For us at Poster Store, this is the shift we have believed in all along. A wall should be allowed to change, and Americans are voting for exactly that. The poster is not the budget compromise. In 2026 it is the thing people are actually looking for. *About the numbers: Google monthly search volume in the US, poster and art print versus canvas print and canvas wall art, to August 2026.*
